Calphalon Chef Demo and Shopping Party

Smoked Salmon
WOWnetwork’s exclusive Chef Demo and Shopping Party event at Calphalon Culinary Center was a hit!  Guests met at Calphalon’s beautiful cooking/demo facility and were greeted with their choice of red or white wine and the Chef’s special creation: melon-wrapped prosciutto with goat cheese... delicious!

Calphalon’s Red Seal Certified Chef, Carlos, was both entertaining and knowledgeable.  He gave great tips about cooking basics while the room shared many laughs.  Following the chef’s creation, guests enjoyed two cooking demos and sampling.  Guests were able to participate during the demo with an instructional on how to flip veggies in your skillet like the pros do!
Smoked Salmon

 French Onion Soup
The first demo was a basic French onion soup full of flavour and the second, a delicious smoked salmon on Herb Blini with Caper Cream ... a real crowd pleaser!  They even accommodated the vegans and vegetarians in the room!

After guests enjoyed these savory dishes they were treated to an exclusive holiday shopping party with a special 20% off of regular priced cookware.  Cook or not, it was hard not to leave inspired!

Chef’s tips:

• When sauteing onions, always add salt at the end as to avoid leathery onions.

• The more you dice an onion the more pungent it will taste.  To enjoy a sweeter garlic flavour, keep the garlic as whole as possible.

• Keep your herbs fresher longer - cut off the ends like you would a bouquet of flowers, place them in water in your fridge and lightly wrap in saran.

• For best-tasting French onion soup, use consomme, a type of soup made from richly flavoured stock and always go with emmenthal cheese.

• How do you know if your eggs are fresh?  The tighter a cracked egg on your frying pan the fresher it is.

• Never add herbs to your sauces or dishes at the end of the cooking process!  For full flavour, saute the herbs to draw out the essential oils before adding them to your dishes. Throwing parsley in your tomato sauce 5 minutes before serving won’t cut it! ;)
